Alpine stands up to the FIA for Alonso

Alpine asks FIA to clarify some points after unfair treatment of Alonso

The team says there is no point in challenging the decision, but wants to understand the limits of permissibility, so that in the future there will be no similar situations.

In the last Grand Prix of Miami happened incomprehensible situation, because of which Fernando Alonso lost 9th place and was a penalty of 50 seconds. And all because of the cut corner shortly before the chequered flag.  The renowned Spanish driver did not win the position, but the judges thought he had the advantage in time.

The driver had to slow down twice on the straight after leaving the track to regain the time advantage. But this did not satisfy the judges’ panel, and there was still an accusation of a long-term advantage.

And this ultimately resulted in Alonso finishing 11th instead of 9th.

The head of Alpine talks about the unfairness of the situation. But there is no desire to challenge the situation, but you need to understand the boundaries of the permitted, the situation to understand all the same.

There is a clear need for clarity at this point, to understand when more time is needed to return.

Alpine stands up for Alonso over unfair fine

The instructions say that if a driver has driven off the track, he can only return safely, without a long-term advantage for him. And the leader determines the fact whether the rider compensates for the time gained off the track.

The Team Principal says that in the heat of the race it is very difficult to understand and determine the proportionality. So the FIA must somehow communicate that the driver’s actions have been satisfactory.

Of course, if you overtake someone outside the track, you have to get the position back on the track.  But in the situation that Fernando faced, you simply can’t do without feedback. And to punish the racer after the finish – it’s unfair decision. After all, the racers were already behind, what penalty are we talking about?

After a little bit of a windup, there was an immediate drop-off. Given the fact that in Monaco there will be a lot of cases of cutting at a certain section of the track, the penalties are a threat to almost all the riders. It’s not done deliberately, because at certain times the tyres and brakes simply give up, so you need to understand how to act. Mistakes accompany every rider.
